This virtual program will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire and the Peshtigo Fire, which occurred on the same October day in 1871. While the Great Chicago Fire is well known, many people are unaware of the Peshtigo Fire, which is the deadliest wildfire in recorded history, decimating 1.2 million acres of land and killing more than 1,500 people. The Western Springs’ Deputy Fire Chief will moderate a discussion between a Peshtigo Fire Museum historian and a curator from the Chicago History Museum.
